ChatGPT is used by 1/3 of postdocs

ChatGPT's Impact on Postdoc Experience:

• Around one-third of postdocs use AI chatbots for tasks like refining text, generating/editing code, and handling literature.

• Rafael Bretas, a postdoc from Brazil based in Japan, uses ChatGPT to make his written Japanese more formal, overcoming language barriers with senior colleagues.

• A survey by Nature revealed that 31% of employed postdocs use chatbots. However, 67% felt that AI had not yet changed their daily work or career plans. Among chatbot users, 43% use them weekly, and 17% daily.

• The main application of chatbots in the postdoc community is refining text. Engineering and social sciences see the highest usage, while the biomedical and clinical sciences report lower usage.

• Xinzhi Teng, a radiography postdoc, uses chatbots to refine English text, prepare manuscripts, and write presentation materials. The tool offers a cost-effective alternative to professional editing services for him.
