3 key pointsFor beauty discovery, Pinterest is adding a bridge from inspiration to a usable service plan: Beauty Guides translates hair and nail Pins into stylist-ready terminology, estimated appointment time and price, and upkeep advice. The feature also offers similar looks, relevant products, and at-home steps, making a saved guide useful beyond the original image. Launched October 6, 2026, it is currently limited to iOS users in the United States; Pinterest says it plans to expand to more regions and categories.

Pinterest wants a beauty photo to become more than something to show a stylist. On October 6, 2026, it launched Beauty Guides, an AI feature that turns hair and nail Pins into instructions for salon visits or recreating a look at home. The starting audience is narrower than that promise: iOS users in the United States.
Giving a picture the right words
The feature starts with the image, rather than requiring someone to know how to describe it. Pinterest says its visual understanding technology analyzes details such as hairstyle, hair color, nail shape and finish. A large language model then turns that analysis into written guidance. The company places Beauty Guides within Pinterest Intelligence, its system combining visual understanding and purpose-built AI models.
One output is the vocabulary used by stylists and nail artists. TechCrunch’s Sarah Perez describes guides that translate a look into terms such as balayage, root melt and almond nails. Those words give users a more specific way to discuss the pictured style, rather than relying only on the photo.
The appointment guidance goes beyond naming the look. Perez reports that guides include what to request, estimated time for the process, a price range and maintenance requirements. Upkeep can include how often to trim, tone or touch up. The time and price information is presented as estimates, alongside instructions for achieving the style.
People come to Pinterest with a point of view, even if they don’t know the words to describe it.

A saved guide, not just a saved Pin
To use the feature, open a hair or nail Pin in closeup and tap Get the Guide. Users can save the resulting guide for their next appointment or refer to it while recreating the look at home. Saving applies to the instructions themselves, giving people a way to return to the guidance after discovering the original image.
Pinterest’s launch announcement also describes outputs beyond the salon conversation. A guide may include:
- Similar looks to explore, offering alternatives to the style shown in the original Pin.
- Relevant products that can help users move from choosing a look to finding what they need.
- Step-by-step instructions for users who want guidance on recreating the look themselves at home.
Hair and nails define the initial scope: hairstyles, color, nail shape and finish are the supported categories at launch. Pinterest plans to bring Beauty Guides to more people and regions over time and introduce guides in additional product categories. Those are expansion plans, separate from the U.S. iOS availability announced with this release.
