Anthropic is bringing Claude for Financial Advisors to more than 16,000 independent registered investment advisors through Charles Schwab’s advisor platform. The deal gives wealth managers a way to connect Claude to custodial records and the software they already use, instead of asking them to replace that technology. Schwab data can include balances, positions, transactions, cost basis, alerts, and money-movement status. Claude can then combine those records with information from customer-relationship management, portfolio, planning, estate, and meeting systems. The aim is to turn scattered data into practical preparation: a pre-meeting brief, a flag about allocation drift or concentrated positions, or a draft recap email and set of CRM tasks after a meeting. That makes orchestration the product’s central bet. Claude is supposed to move information across an advisor’s existing stack and prepare work for review. It is not supposed to make the final regulated decision. Investment recommendations, client communications, compliance outcomes, and administrative actions remain subject to human approval. Anthropic says its compliance skill can screen client-facing language against the SEC Marketing Rule, but it does not make a compliance determination. The integration also reaches systems from BlackRock, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, Wealthbox, Wealth.com, and Zocks. The key question is whether approval gates and audit logs give firms enough visibility when Claude handles sensitive client information and drafts material that could reach customers.

Story brief

3 key points

Anthropic's Claude for Financial Advisors is now available through Schwab Advisor Services to more than 16,000 independent RIAs, with access to custodial records and connectors across CRM, portfolio, planning, estate, and meeting systems. The product's strategic bet is orchestration: Claude prepares briefs, flags portfolio issues, and drafts follow-ups across existing tools rather than replacing them. Advisors must...

Anthropic has launched Claude for Financial Advisors, bringing a new AI package for wealth-management work to the independent registered investment advisors served by Charles Schwab. The pitch is not an AI replacement for the advisor’s existing tools. It is a layer meant to pull client information, preparation, and paperwork into one workflow while keeping human judgment at the final decision point.

The release gives advisors connectors to systems they already rely on, including customer-relationship management software, custody data, portfolio reporting, financial planning, estate-planning tools, and meeting capture. Schwab Advisor Services said its collaboration will bring the offering to the more than 16,000 independent RIAs it serves; Anthropic says Schwab custodial data can include balances, positions, transactions, cost basis, alerts, and money-movement status.

One workspace, several advisor systems

That integration is the product’s central bet. Advisors often work across separate record systems, and Claude is meant to gather information from those sources, summarize it, and prepare drafts around the workday. Anthropic describes the product as an orchestrator across an advisor’s technology stack, rather than a replacement for the stack itself.

The tasks Anthropic is targeting

  • Pre-meeting preparation can combine holdings, recent account activity, and unresolved items from earlier meetings into a brief for advisor review.
  • Portfolio-review tools can flag allocation drift and concentrated positions, then create a draft explanation for the advisor.
  • Post-meeting workflows can turn a transcript into a client summary, recap email, and CRM tasks.
  • Estate and tax workflows can compare an estate plan with account titling and beneficiaries, then create follow-up tasks for review.

The control boundary is approval

The product is designed for a profession where drafting a useful answer and approving a regulated one are different jobs. Anthropic says investment recommendations, client communications, compliance determinations, and other regulated activities remain subject to human review and approval. Administrative actions, such as CRM updates and draft client messages, are staged for an advisor to review before approval.

Anthropic also says its compliance skill can screen client-facing language against the SEC Marketing Rule, flagging material that may need further compliance review. That is a screening function, not an automated compliance decision: the company says the skill can help firms document review workflows and AI-governance processes within their existing recordkeeping practices.

Schwab supplies a distribution route

The Schwab relationship gives the launch a direct path into independent advisory firms and connects Claude to Schwab Advisor Services custodial data. Schwab Advisor Services said it is currently the only RIA custodian offering this Claude integration. The broader plugin also works with firms including BlackRock, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, Wealthbox, Wealth.com, and Zocks, so advisors choose which connections to activate during setup.

The promise is a simpler way to turn scattered client records into usable meeting context and follow-up work. The unresolved test is whether the approval gates, compliance screening, and administrator audit logs give firms enough visibility when an AI system moves through sensitive client information and drafts material that may reach clients.
