The expansion gives Free users a temporary way to stretch Claude session limits while creating or editing artifacts, rather than lowering prices or changing weekly caps. Discounts apply in bounded windows—10 chat messages or up to 80 steps in qualifying cloud Claude Cowork tasks—and exclude several products and workflows, including Enterprise plans, Claude Code, and the API. Free eligibility began October 7 at 10 a.m. PT; the offer is scheduled to end October 15, though Anthropic’s terms allow it to end earlier.
Choosing Document, Presentation, or Design when starting a chat applies the discount from the first message; in a regular chat, the artifact-creating message is charged at the standard rate.
Only the first 15 steps in a reply can be discounted; later searches, tool use, or artifact updates count at the standard rate.
A new cloud Cowork task started with Document, Presentation, or Design gets about 45 minutes of discounted usage; locally run tasks do not qualify.
Anthropic added Free Claude plans to its artifact-usage promotion on October 7, 2026, giving eligible work a 50% reduction in usage counted against five-hour session limits. The offer covers creating or editing artifacts, including documents, slides and designs—not every conversation. It ends October 15, with different discount windows for chats and cloud-based Claude Cowork tasks.
Free-plan eligibility began at 10:00 AM PT on October 7; earlier usage is not discounted. Pro, Max and Team users have been eligible since October 1. The scheduled cutoff for everyone is October 15 at 11:59 PM PT. Eligible accounts receive the promotion automatically, without entering a code or turning on a setting.
In a Claude chat, creating or editing an artifact discounts the next 10 messages in that conversation. After those messages, usage counts at the standard rate until Claude creates or edits another artifact in the same chat, restarting the window. The promotion applies to eligible chats on the web, desktop and mobile.
Choosing Document, Presentation or Design from the Output menu when starting a new chat makes the discount apply from the first message. Starting with a regular chat works differently: the message where Claude first creates the artifact counts at the standard rate. The next 10 messages receive the discount.
There is also a cap inside each reply. Only the first 15 steps—such as searches, tool use or artifact updates—can be discounted. Further steps in that reply count at the standard rate.
For Claude Cowork, the offer applies only to tasks running in the cloud, not locally in Claude Desktop. Starting a new cloud task by choosing Document, Presentation or Design gives about the first 45 minutes of that task the discounted usage rate.
In other cloud tasks, including those moved into a Workspace, creating or editing an artifact can discount up to the next 80 steps. Those steps can include searches, tool use and artifact updates. Creating or editing another artifact restarts the discount.
The promotion’s terms also allow Anthropic to change or end the offer early. October 15 is the scheduled endpoint, rather than an unconditional guarantee of availability through that date.
