A Glimpse Into Google's Future

The next-generation phone with enhanced features and a higher price tag.

A Sneak Peek

  • Camera Evolution: Google has revamped the Pixel 8 Pro's camera, introducing a 50-megapixel main sensor with a brighter lens and an upgraded 48-megapixel telephoto module. Plus, you can now control various camera features directly from the app, including focus, shutter speed, and more.

  • Display & Design: The phone boasts a fully flat 6.7-inch LTPO display with variable refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. Say goodbye to curved edges and hello to a peak brightness of 2,400 nits. The back panel now comes with a matte finish in three colors: obsidian black, porcelain, and bay blue.

  • The Unexpected Feature: Google has introduced a temperature sensor, a first for the Pixel series. While it's currently not approved for reading body temperatures, Google is seeking FDA approval for this functionality.

AI & Software Enhancements

  • Tensor G3 Chipset: This custom chipset by Google drives many of the Pixel 8 Pro's new AI features. Though no claims regarding battery efficiency have been made, the chipset promises a plethora of AI capabilities.

  • Innovative Camera Software: New features include Audio Magic Eraser, which isolates and minimizes distracting sounds in videos, and Magic Editor, an AI image editing tool. Future updates will bring Night Sight Video and Zoom Enhance, exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro.

  • Google Assistant Upgrades: Expect better speech recognition, the ability to translate webpages aloud, and a more intuitive keyboard.

Final Thoughts The Pixel 8 Pro gives us a hint of where Google envisions its flagship phone heading, especially as its generative AI technology continues to evolve. While not all features are available at launch, the phone showcases the direction Google is leaning towards for its future devices.

Price & Availability: The Google Pixel 8 Pro is up for preorders starting at $999 for the 128GB model
